Clint Cain, MSOM, DCCM, Dipl. OM, L.Ac.
Clint Cain is the founder and director of Great Nature Oriental Medicine. He is board certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in the practice of both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, having completed over 3500 hours of graduate-level training in traditional acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Oriental medical bodywork, self-cultivation exercises, and biomedicine; as well as over 1200 hours of hands-on, clinical training. Clint began his journey into Oriental Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) in Chicago, where he gained a solid foundation in the fundamentals and history of Chinese medical theory, acupuncture therapy, and Chinese herbal medicine. He went on to earn his Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College (SWAC) in Boulder, CO.
While living in Colorado, in addition to running a private medical practice, Mr. Cain was employed as a teaching assistant at SWAC from 2015-2018 in both Japanese acupuncture and Oriental bodywork classes. Clint is a Licensed Acupuncturist in the state of Ohio, having lived and practiced here since early 2019.
Japanese Acupuncture
Clint specializes in a system of Japanese acupuncture that provides a pain-free experience for his patients. This style is deeply rooted in the classical texts of Oriental Medicine, and places strong emphases on palpation of the body for both diagnosis and treatment, precise and effective acupuncture point location, and a constant fine tuning of the therapeutic dosage needed for each individual.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
In early 2017 Mr. Cain completed his foundational training with the Institute of Classics in East Asian Medicine, earning his Diplomate of Canonical Chinese Medicine. He has completed over 400 hours of post-graduate classroom and clinical training in Canonical Chinese Medicine®, a system of herbalism rooted in the Han Dynasty classical medical texts. Clint regularly attends both in-person clinical training and online study groups with his primary herbal medicine teachers, Dr. Arnaud Versluys, and Stephen Bonzak, FICEAM, L.Ac.
More About Clint
From early on in his life, Clint has been guided by an inherent fascination with the cultures of the Far East, especially Japan. This led him to begin practicing Zen Buddhist meditation and traditional martial arts at the age of 15. During his undergraduate education, he discovered in his selection of classes each semester a three-part recurring theme focused on Eastern civilization and history, and world history; Eastern and Western philosophy; and human anatomy and physiology, and biology. He somehow sensed that a career as an acupuncturist could merge of all these deep interests with the most significant work of Self-realization.
While in graduate school, in addition to completing his required coursework, Mr. Cain also began to study Traditional Japanese Acupuncture with longtime practitioner, Tom Hurrle, L.Ac., attending seminars with him and receiving treatments as often as possible. He then spent six years training with Ted Hall, L.Ac. of Boulder, CO. Clint’s primary teacher and guide for refining his skill in Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion is David Toone, L.Ac., a direct student of the late Anryu Iwashina Sensei, who was known as Dr. Bear to his students and patients.
When he is not in clinic, Clint can likely be found practicing the Japanese martial art of Aikido, an art which deeply influences his work as an acupuncturist and herbalist, and vice versa. He enjoys spending time with his wife, working on projects around their home, gardening, attending car shows and drag racing events, cooking and baking, traveling, and of course, giving as much love and attention as possible to their sweet Bernese Mountain Dog, Blossom.
